U.S. military personnel have tested the modular HarborPOD system for evacuating wounded soldiers using unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).
According to its developer, Valinor, UGVs equipped with HarborPOD can autonomously transport supplies and evacuate wounded personnel on the return trip.
Each HarborPOD uses HarborOS software, which combines patient-monitoring sensors, cameras, and vehicle data to provide:
HarborOS transmits key information about the wounded person to the medical team receiving them. This allows medical personnel to prepare the necessary equipment and plan treatment before the casualty arrives.
HarborPOD is a module of the Harbor rapid-deployment medical system.
Harbor is available in several configurations, enabling different levels and types of medical care, including resuscitation, surgery, and prolonged care for wounded personnel.
The medical system is equipped with ballistic panels and Anduril’s Wisp electro-optical system, which provides passive 360-degree surveillance using AI.
According to the developer, the U.S. Marine Corps selected Harbor in April as part of the Haven Shelter System program. The medical system will undergo testing and is expected to enter service later this year.
The U.S. Marine Corps will deploy two variants of the Harbor modules: an intensive care unit, which provides emergency medical care, patient stabilization, and limited damage-control resuscitation; and an emergency care unit, which provides ongoing support for stabilized patients requiring continued care and monitoring.
The system is capable of providing medical care to casualties autonomously for up to 72 hours without resupply. It is equipped with climate-control systems, oxygen-generation systems, and remote patient monitoring.
The Bundeswehr is also modernizing its field medical systems. On August 4, the German Army ordered 149 mobile medical treatment facilities from Rheinmetall, a system that Ukraine has been using since 2023.
