The capital of Lithuania has presented an evacuation plan in case of aggression from Russia or Belarus.

This is reported by Euractiv.

According to Vilnius Mayor Vladas Benkunskas, the main evacuation routes are three directions leading to the west. A total of 150 routes have been calculated and evacuation points have been identified.

The city’s residents will be notified of the evacuation via SMS and sirens. A special alert system is also being developed through smartphone applications.

“We do not want to create panic. Our goal is clear: to have a plan, to have coordination between institutions, to know who is responsible for what, and to trust our defense forces… hoping that this plan will never have to be activated,” the mayor emphasized.

The city administration notes that Vilnius, home to more than 400,000 people, can be completely evacuated within 48 hours.

The action algorithm was developed based on Kyiv’s experience in the first days of the full-scale invasion.

The evacuation plan was developed not only in the event of war, but also as a response to potential threats of natural disasters or accidents at the Ostrovets nuclear power plant in Belarus.

Lithuania is strengthening its borders

On March 23, it became known that the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense was considering reinforcing the border with Russia and Belarus by mining it.

Mining will become an additional element of border protection within the concept of counter-mobility, which will allow for a longer deterrence of a potential enemy.

As noted by the Lithuanian Defense Minister, this strategy will use both anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, taking into account Poland’s experience in creating the northeastern flank wall.

In addition, Lithuania is discussing the possibility of jointly strengthening its borders with other countries, ranging from Finland to Poland.

It is planned to organize a defensive line with numerous fortifications, bunkers and appropriate bases.

Earlier, Militarnyi reported that Lithuania officially withdrew from the international convention prohibiting the purchase, use and production of cluster munitions.
