Iran negortiates purchase of Russian Su-35 fighter jets

The Iranian Air Force plans to purchase multi-role fighters from Russia.

Iran is interested in acquiring Su-35 fighters produced by the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant.

Brigadier General Hamid Vahedi, Iranian Air Force Commander, told this to the Iranian Borna news agency.

Iran is believed to be claiming Su-35 fighters that were made for Egypt but haven’t be delivered.

Allegedly, 30 Iranian pilots were sent to Russia last year to start training.

The Commander of the Iranian Air Force said that previosly planned purchase of Russian Su-30 fighters, was replaced by the plans to deal on Su-35 fighters.

The final decision on the purchase of Russian fighters is up to the Army’s Command and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran.

In addition to Russia, Su-35 are in service with the Air Force of the People’s Liberation Army of China, which purchased 24 Russian fighters.

Egypt and Indonesia also considered buying Su-35, however, they refused, probably due to the threat of sanctions.

Another possible reason for the refusal — problems with the flight characteristics of Russian Su-35.

For 2 years twenty one Su-35 fighters, which were intended for Egypt, have been stored on the territory of the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant.
