Fire Point Introduces FP-2 Frontline Strike Drone

Ukrainian company Fire Point has showcased a medium-range strike drone designed to hit frontline targets with a 100-kilogram warhead.

The announcement came during a presentation at the MSPO exhibition in Kielce, Militarnyi correspondent reported.

The FP-2 is based on the design of the FP-1 long-range drone, used to strike targets in the Russian rear. Its range, however, has been reduced from 1,400 km to 200 km, while the warhead has been increased to 105 kg.

The drone is available with autonomous guidance for strikes on stationary targets, as well as a version that allows manual control via radio to hit moving targets.

According to the developers, the FP-2 is already operational at the front line. Given its close design similarities with the mass-produced FP-1, deliveries to the front may accelerate soon.

The manufacturer offers a flexible launch system, including both a traditional stationary launcher and a mobile version that can be disguised as a standard army truck.

The concept of using long-range drones with heavier warheads for frontline strikes has been previously developed and is now employed by the Russian army, which has used modernized Shahed-136 (Geran-2) drones in recent months.

Russians have equipped such drones with thermal imaging cameras and radio data links to target Ukrainian artillery, drone operators, and other key assets.

However, operating beyond 50 km requires ground- or air-based repeater drones, a role filled by reconnaissance drones such as the Russian Zala or the Ukrainian Shark.

The combination of relatively low cost, accessibility, and a heavy warhead helps partially offset shortages of precision missile weapons.

In addition, the FP-2’s long range extends the potential strike zone into enemy rear areas, threatening logistics hubs, personnel positions, and weapons depots.

Flying at low altitude and in large numbers, drones can evade or overwhelm Russian air defenses, in some cases achieving greater effect than HIMARS missile strikes.
