Two Dead and One Missing: Iran Attacked a U.S. Base in Jordan

Two U.S. service members were killed on July 17 in Jordan while fighting off an attack by Iranian ballistic missiles and drones.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported this.

Another service member is currently listed as missing.

According to the command, U.S. military personnel, together with partner forces, were providing air defense and repelling a massive Iranian strike.

Four U.S. service members were evacuated to hospitals in Jordan.

As of July 16, 2026, the United States has officially confirmed the deaths of 14 service members as part of Operation Epic Fury.

Of these, seven were killed in action; another seven died from non-combat causes, or their status remained under review at the time of publication.

The U.S. Army suffered the heaviest losses, losing eight service members.

The Air Force lost six service members, while the Navy, the Marine Corps, and the Space Force suffered no casualties.

In addition to the fatalities, U.S. forces suffered 427 combat injuries. The U.S. Army accounted for the largest number of casualties—287 service members. The Navy reported 68 injuries, the Air Force 53, and the Marine Corps 19.

According to official statistics from the U.S. Department of Defense, all seven combat deaths were recorded in March 2026. Six non-combat deaths occurred during that same period, while one additional non-combat death was recorded in July.

Militarnyi previously reported that, in addition to personnel, the U.S. also lost aircraft during this operation. During Operation Epic Fury against Iran, the United States lost or sustained damage to at least 42 aircraft.
