Police in Zaporizhzhia have begun using drones to patrol urban areas as part of an initiative to enhance public safety and improve situational awareness.
The unmanned aerial systems, equipped with high-resolution cameras, are intended to monitor activity from above, identify suspicious individuals or objects, and enable rapid response to incidents.
“Drones equipped with powerful cameras will monitor the situation in the city from a bird’s eye view,” the National Police said in a statement.
Authorities have designated four zones for drone surveillance:
The drones will help officers assess public spaces in real time, detect unusual behavior, and issue alerts to the public when needed.
Police have selected the DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise, a Chinese-manufactured quadcopter, for this task.
The drone features a 4K camera capable of capturing high-resolution images and video, including HDR and various recording modes.
The Mavic 3 Enterprise is equipped with a Vision Sensing system that enables automatic obstacle avoidance and stable flight in complex environments.
Its updated return-to-home function calculates the safest and most efficient route back to its launch point.
The APAS 5.0 system further enhances safety by allowing the drone to autonomously navigate around obstacles.
At the end of 2024, local communities in the Zaporizhzhia region donated DJI Mavic drones to Ukraine’s Defense Forces to support military operations.
