Two Russian Generals Die Under Unknown Circumstances

Two senior Russian military officers have died under unknown circumstances – Lieutenant General Igor Yerusalimov and an unidentified major general.

The exact date of Yerusalimov’s death has not been disclosed. It is only known that he was buried on August 5. A funeral notice was posted the previous day at 5:45 p.m. in a community chat for Moscow’s Solntsevo district. The location of his burial has not been revealed.

A funeral for an unidentified major general was held under tight secrecy at Moscow’s Troyekurovskoye Cemetery. According to one account, the officer may have been a close associate of Aleksandr Chaiko, the commander of Russia’s Aerospace Forces, who was reportedly present at the major general’s 55th birthday celebration.

From early morning, officers from Russia’s Federal Protective Service were deployed at the cemetery, while several buses carrying Rosgvardia (National Guard) personnel were brought to the site.

Parking was prohibited around the cemetery, and police officers and plainclothes personnel inspected all vehicles entering the grounds.

Both drivers and pedestrians were required to pass through security screening checkpoints. The funeral procession was accompanied by an honor guard carrying the flag of the Russian Aerospace Forces, but a Russian Ground Forces flag was placed beside the grave.

Eyewitnesses said the funeral was for a “relatively young” major general.

On August 1, an explosion occurred at the Balzi Rossi restaurant in central Moscow. According to pro-Russian bloggers, the event may have been a celebration marking the 55th birthday of Aleksandr Chaiko, the commander-in-chief of Russia’s Aerospace Forces.

According to Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee, an unidentified woman allegedly attempted to bring an improvised explosive device into the restaurant disguised as a gift. However, a security guard stopped her before she entered.

The explosion killed the woman, the security guard, and one of the restaurant’s patrons, while 21 other people were injured. However, Russian media outlets generally reported that five people were killed.

It cannot be ruled out that both generals may have been among those killed in the blast.
