Zelensky Asked Trump for “Winter Package” of Missiles for Patriot Systems

Zelensky appealed to Trump to provide Ukraine with a “winter” package of anti-aircraft missiles for the Patriot systems to strengthen the protection of energy infrastructure against Russian attacks.

According to the publication, the Ukrainian president made this request during a meeting with the U.S. president on July 28. Zelensky said that Trump also agreed to continue working on the issue of granting licenses for the production of missiles for the Patriot system.

In total, Ukraine is seeking to receive 300 missiles by the start of winter. Zelensky noted that Trump promised to try to help, but made it clear that this would not be easy due to the U.S.’s need for interceptors amid the war with Iran.

It was recently reported that following the U.S. war with Iran, stocks of missiles for the Patriot systems had fallen to fewer than 1,000 units, and stocks of THAAD interceptors to approximately 250.

According to Zelensky, Russia uses between 30 and 40 ballistic missiles during each large-scale strike on Ukraine. Such attacks occur three to five times a month.

The president also emphasized that Ukraine is ready to share with the U.S. any military technologies and expertise that may be of interest to them in order to obtain interceptor missiles for the Patriot system.

Earlier, Zelensky met with representatives from Lockheed Martin and RTX, which manufacture the PAC-3 and PAC-2 missiles, respectively.

According to the president, teams are already working on specific solutions to move toward joint production as quickly as possible.

Earlier, on July 8, it was reported that U.S. President Donald Trump hinted at a possible transfer of a license to manufacture missiles for the Patriot air defense system during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.

It was later revealed that Poland will cooperate with Ukraine in the production and maintenance of PAC-3 missiles for the Patriot systems.
