Donald Trump announced the creation of a new military academy that will train U.S. Space Force officers, NASA personnel, and representatives of the civilian space industry.

The U.S. President signed an executive order establishing the new military academy on August 28.

He announced this decision during a speech at the NASA Johnson Space Center at an event honoring the participants of the “Artemis II” mission.

“It’s called the U.S. Space Academy. That’s a big deal. So you think of West Point, and you think of Annapolis, and you think of the Air Force Academy, and you think of the Coast Guard academies. Great, they’re all great. But we’re going to have now the Space Force,” said Trump.

Trump, who established the Space Force during his first term in 2019, noted that the new Space Academy will educate and train “qualified service members, engineers, and civilian operators.” It will also be similar to existing military academies.

Currently, pilots train at the Air Force Academy, similar to how pilots undergo basic training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.

Trump cited the growth of the Space Force as one of the reasons for establishing the new academy. The Space Force currently has approximately 10,000 personnel.

According to sources at Task & Purpose, Space Force leadership aims to double the number of personnel.

No details regarding the location or opening date of the Space Academy are currently known.

Trump’s executive order establishes a new commission headed by NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, with Defense Secretary Pete Hagseth and Air Force Secretary Troy Maink serving on the commission.

According to Trump’s directive, the commission must prepare and submit a report on the curriculum, structure, and job responsibilities within 120 days of the executive order’s issuance.

On August 27, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he is not concerned about a possible Russian attack on NATO countries.
