The Danish Armed Forces will deploy several groups of military personnel to Ukraine to study drone tactics and gain Ukrainian combat experience.

Major General Peter Harling Boysen, the Chief of the Royal Danish Army, shared this with TV 2.

Several teams of soldiers from different army regiments will be sent to Ukraine for military training, which is being organized at the initiative of the Danish commander and the invitation of Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The final number of soldiers and the training program have not yet been determined, but Boysen mentioned that both instructors and soldiers, who will attend courses lasting from one to two weeks, are planned to be sent.

The training of Danish troops is expected to begin as early as this summer, focusing on learning experience in using drones.

“We are sending several teams to learn firsthand from the experience gained by the Ukrainians,” he says, adding that “over 70% of the damage to Russian forces is caused by strike drones.”

General Michael Wiggers Hyldgaard, the Chief of Defense, also proposed sending several leaders to Ukraine, not only from the land forces but also from the navy, air force, medical service, and the Defense Academy.

“We can learn a lot from the combat experience they have gained in Ukraine. Therefore, it is clear that we are relying on their experience to become better in combat,” Peter Boysen noted.

He added that the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is 100% fulfilling its plans and strongly desires to share its knowledge and develop closer cooperation with the Danish Ministry of Defense. This fits well with Ukraine’s foreign policy strategy of moving closer to the NATO alliance.

Denmark is Adopting the Ukrainian Experience

The Danish Chief Commander is actively implementing new experiences in the army, having set up a training center for strike drone operators at the Varde training ground. There, Boysen introduces new tactics he observed during his trips to Ukraine.

“In my 42 years of service in the armed forces, I’ve never felt that things are moving as quickly as they are now,” he says.

The military is also studying defense methods, constructing fortifications, and engineering structures at the training ground in such a way that they can protect against drones.
