The Czech holding company Czechoslovak Group (CSG) plans to launch its own production of nitrocellulose, a key component in artillery ammunition, within two years.

This was stated by Jan Hamáček, CSG director for external relations, according to Miltarnyi correspondent.

The company aims to build production capacity at the IFF plant in Germany, which it acquired in October 2024.

The facility previously produced nitrocellulose for industrial purposes only.

“Production has not yet started. It needs to be either retooled or expanded to manufacture energy-grade nitrocellulose. The timeline is two years. Previously, we sourced nitrocellulose externally, but now we’re working to produce it in-house,” said Jan Hamáček.

This would enable CSG to complete the full production cycle of large-caliber artillery ammunition — from shells to explosives and propellant charges.

The new nitrocellulose production line is planned for a plant located in an industrial park near Walsrode in Lower Saxony, Germany.

In addition to civilian applications, nitrocellulose is used in the manufacture of gunpowder and explosives — both critical components in the production of artillery ammunition.

Both of these compounds are critically important components in the production of artillery ammunition.
