Damage to the AVT-5 primary oil refining unit, with multiple points of fire in various locations, was observed at the Syzran oil refinery in the Samara region of the Russian Federation.
Satellite images of the facility were published by the Exilenova+ Telegram channel.
In addition, as a result of the strikes, technical trestles at the plant were destroyed by fire, and another unit—AVT-6—was significantly damaged.
AVT-5 and AVT-6 are the plant’s main processing units, which perform primary oil distillation and separate the feedstock into gasoline, kerosene, and diesel fractions.
The AVT-5 facility processes 2.6 million metric tons of raw materials per year, while the more powerful AVT-6 is capable of processing up to 6 million metric tons, which together constitute the plant’s total production capacity.
The Syzran oil refinery is owned by the oil company Rosneft and is one of the key fuel producers in the Volga region. The refinery is directly involved in meeting the Russian army’s fuel logistics needs.
As a reminder, the refinery was struck on July 12, resulting in a major fire on the premises.
