All children, women, and elderly were evacuated from the Azovstal plant

All women, children, and the elderly were evacuated from the bunkers of the Azovstal plant in almost completely occupied by the Russian invaders Mariupol.

This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk.

“The President’s order has been executed: all women, children, and elderly were evacuated from Azovstal. This phase of Mariupol humanitarian operation has been completed,” she said.

The day before, a total of 50 civilians – children, women, and elderly – were evacuated from the Azovstal plant.

On the morning of May 6, Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President, stated that approximately 500 civilians were evacuated from the plant.

On the same day, the invaders in Mariupol opened fire against a vehicle that was meant to evacuate civilian Ukrainians from Azovstal.

Three soldiers were killed, and six were wounded.

The assault on the Azovstal plant continues. Russian troops were striking with the heavy artillery, then deployed tanks into the battle, and under their cover began the landing operation. Russia does not give an open corridor to the defenders of Mariupol, who continue to defend themselves at the besieged plant.

They are ready to evacuate with the assistance of a third party with their own weapons, taking away the wounded and the bodies of the dead. Defenders have repeatedly asked to apply the extraction operation to them.

Mariupol has been blocked by the Russian invaders for over two months. The actions of the Russian military caused a large-scale humanitarian catastrophe in the city.

The invaders had shelled the residential areas and civilian infrastructure and blocked humanitarian aid.

As a result, over 20,000 people died in the city. After lengthy negotiations and diplomatic efforts, the Russian side finally opened a humanitarian corridor for the civilians from the Azovstal plant on May 1. The evacuation is mediated by the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
