The Israeli company Esh-Tech, together with German armored vehicle manufacturer FFG, will present a new modification of the ACSV armored vehicle equipped with a laser system designed to counter drones.
The system, called DroneLight, will be presented at the Eurosatory defense exhibition in Paris, according to hartpunkt.
The system is designed to protect ground forces from a range of aerial threats, particularly kamikaze drones. The mobile platform is currently undergoing testing and evaluation by several foreign customers.
DroneLight is based on a pulsed laser architecture. Unlike continuous-wave laser systems, pulsed technology uses short, high-intensity bursts.
This creates a “drilling” effect that can physically damage and destroy a drone’s structure in approximately 1-2 seconds.
The system’s power consumption is about 4 kW, significantly lower than comparable systems that require 20 kW or more.
This allows the laser to operate using the vehicle’s onboard electrical system without additional power infrastructure.
The system can operate at a frequency of up to 5 Hz and is capable of neutralizing up to 30 targets per minute. It is operated by a single person and uses an automatic target tracking system.
