Finland will officially join the international drone coalition by the end of spring. The coalition was created to support Ukraine.

Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen said this in an interview with the publication Uutissuomalainen.

He noted that the decision came after careful consideration. The initiative is led by the United Kingdom and Latvia, and 20 countries have already joined.

“This issue was assessed last year and again this year. Now I can announce that Finland will join the ‘drone coalition’ this spring,” the minister said.

Antti Häkkänen also noted that the Finnish government has discussed allocating more resources to support Ukraine in the field of unmanned systems.

“Through this, we will be able to make a significant contribution to European support for Ukraine,” the defense minister emphasized.

Drone Coalition

The Drone Coalition was established in February 2024 during the 19th meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group.

The aim of the initiative is to ensure the industrial production of drones and expand the unmanned systems industry in order to create an asymmetric technological advantage over Russian occupying forces on the battlefield, in line with the needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

Financial contributions from countries that have joined the coalition are used to fund the procurement and supply of various types of drones.

Ukraine–Finland Cooperation

Ukrainian company TAF Industries and Finnish company Summa Defence signed a memorandum of understanding in late April to scale up drone production in Finland.

The eALLIANCE program, led by the Finnish company Patria, will also cooperate with the Ukrainian defense cluster IRON Cluster and Double Tap Investments.

In addition, Ukraine, together with Finland, Italy, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, has established CORPUS – a coalition in the field of defense support.
