Ukraine and Germany have agreed to strengthen cooperation in air defense and accelerate the development of ballistic missile interception capabilities.

Earlier, the Ukrainian defense company Fire Point and the German manufacturer of missiles and air defense systems Diehl Defence signed a technological cooperation agreement.

This is particularly important for Ukraine amid regular strikes by Russian ballistic missiles.

Currently, one of the main means of intercepting such targets remains the MIM-104 Patriot systems, the number of which is limited.

Amid this, the Ukrainian “Freya” project, which envisages the creation of a European ballistic shield, is drawing attention.

According to Fire Point co-founder Denis Shtilerman, the system is designed to integrate with European radars, command centers, and digital data exchange channels.

The developer also stated that the new system will be capable of intercepting ballistic targets using a homing head or external target designation.

Earlier, Reuters reported that Fire Point is in talks with European partners regarding the launch of a new air defense system as a cheaper alternative to the Patriot.

If this project is implemented, Ukraine will gain a new layer of protection against missile strikes, and Europe will gain a joint defense system that incorporates Ukrainian combat experience.

The explicit mention of anti-ballistic air defense in the declaration with Germany may indicate that such projects are already moving from concept to practical implementation.

Germany recently transferred a third Patriot air defense system to Ukraine.
