US Army Tests AI-Powered Ground Drone in Georgia

The US Army tested the Overland AI ULTRA wheeled drone based on a buggy during the multinational Agile Spirit 25 exercise in Georgia.

During the exercises, the US military evaluated several suppliers of autonomous transportation platforms with a view to concluding future contracts for the integration of advanced technologies into combat units.

For Agile Spirit 25, the US Army tested a fully autonomous vehicle with artificial intelligence.

It was used to transport ammunition of 60 mm and 120 mm caliber.

US military personnel were trained to operate this platform for several months.

ULTRA is a four-wheel drive off-road drone with a maximum speed of about 56 km/h.

It is capable of carrying a payload of up to 450 kg, with a range of up to 160 km at an average speed of 32 km/h (depending on terrain conditions).

The manufacturer positions the platform as a relatively cheap and consumable resource. In the future, the company plans to adapt the drone for medical evacuation and breakthroughs of enemy defenses.

The resumption of the Agile Spirit 2025 exercise was announced on July 20. Its goal is to increase combat readiness, strengthen interoperability and develop the operational capabilities of the armed forces of the participating countries.

The program included a command and staff phase, a tactical Georgian-American convoy on the Senaki-Vaziani highway, live firing as part of combined exercises, and joint actions by special operations units.

Servicemen from Georgia, the United States, Turkey, Poland, Germany, Italy, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Lithuania, and Ukraine will take part in the maneuvers.
