Russia Launches Missile and Drone Strike on Ukraine: Casualties Reported

On the night of April 24, Russians attacked Ukraine with cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as strike drones.

The targets included Kyiv and its region, the Zhytomyr, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Poltava, Khmelnytsky, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia regions, as reported by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko. There are fatalities and casualties.

Kyiv was hit the hardest, with rescuers working at 13 locations. The first explosions were heard in the capital around 1:10 a.m.

As reported by Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko and rescuers, the attack resulted in numerous destructions and fires in the capital.

As of 7:30 a.m., a total of 9 people have been confirmed dead as a result of the Russian strike in Kyiv. More than 70 others have sustained various injuries, including children. Restrictions have been put in place at the emergency response sites.

In Kyiv region, 2 people were injured, and several residential 5-story buildings, shops, warehouses, a public transport stop, and cars were damaged as a result of the Russian combined attack, reported the head of the Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, on Telegram.

Due to the Russian attack in Kharkiv, at least two people were injured, reported Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov. According to him, residential buildings in the city were damaged, as it was attacked by Russian missiles and drones.

At night, the Russians launched a massive attack on the Dnipropetrovsk region with missiles and drones. In Pavlohrad, an industrial enterprise was targeted. Preliminary reports indicate no fatalities or casualties, the head of the Regional Military Administration, Serhii Lysak, stated in the morning.

In Zaporizhzhia, as a result of the Russian attack, an administrative building and windows in a nearby building were damaged, reported the head of the Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov. Preliminary reports indicate there are no injuries or fatalities.

Around 40 fire outbreaks were extinguished by the State Emergency Service (SES) rescuers overnight in 9 regions of the country. The entire night, emergency operations were carried out under the threat of repeated shelling. In the Zhytomyr region, the enemy launched a second strike on the unit that had arrived to extinguish the fire. A 39-year-old rescuer was injured.

According to the Ukrainian monitoring group Monitor, during the missile and drone attack on the night of April 24, the enemy used:

  • Kh-101 cruise missiles launched from Tu-95MS aircraft from the Volgograd and Saratov regions of the Russian Federation;
  • 3M14 cruise missiles of the Kalibr missile system, launched from the Black Sea;
  • Iskander-M / KN-23 ballistic missiles, launched from the Voronezh region;
  • Kh-59/69 air-launched cruise missiles;
  • Shahed/Geran and Gerbera strike drones, and others.

The attack was combined and complex, designed for the simultaneous approach of various types of airstrike assets.
