The funding request for the first quarter of fiscal year 2023 will seek $7.2 billion for the Defense Department. Of those funds, $4.5 billion will be intended for equipment for Ukraine and to replenish the Pentagon’s stocks, with $2.7 billion for other military, intelligence, and defense support.
The White House is seeking $4.5 billion for the State Department and USAID to continue support of Ukraine’s government.
As previously reported, in 2022, President Biden had already appealed to Congress to approve the allocation of $40 billion to Ukraine. According to American law, these funds have to be spent before the beginning of the next fiscal year.
The last $3 billion military aid package was announced in August 2022. Presumably, it includes the production of NASAMS air defense systems for Ukraine.
