The West Virginia National Guard will be sending the armored personnel carriers to Ukraine.

Jim Justice, Governor of West Virginia has announced that West Virginia will be shipping the armored personnel carriers, “Voice of America” informs.

According to the official information, Justice stated that an “undisclosed number” of M-113 armored personnel carriers would be coming to Ukraine following a request from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The vehicles are used to transport soldiers and equipment while providing protection from the small arms fire.

“We are joining with other states, and are hoping and praying that this will give Ukrainian Armed Forces a major leg up in the defense of their home country,” said the statement.

M113 lightweight universal floating conveyor was developed in the 1960s for the needs of the United States Army.

Its crew consists of two people, it is able to carry an airborne unit of up to 11 people, as well as serve as a base for several dozens of specialized vehicles.

In its initial configuration, it was armed with a 12.7-millimeter machine gun and equipped with a gasoline engine. It was later modernized several times.

This armored personnel carrier is in service of the armies of several dozen countries It is produced both in the United States and, under license, in other countries. The M113 hull is welded from the aluminum armor plates.

As reported earlier, the United States will be allocating an additional $800 million military aid package to Ukraine.

From the U.S., Ukraine will be receiving the 72 additional 155mm howitzers and 144,000 artillery rounds; 72 Tactical Vehicles to tow howitzers; 121 Phoenix Ghost tactical unmanned aerial systems.
