Sweden and Ukraine have signed an agreement for the purchase of the first 16 Gripen E fighter jets for the Ukrainian Air Force.
Deliveries of these aircraft will begin in early 2029.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
In addition to the aircraft, Ukraine will receive the necessary equipment, as well as logistical and technical support. Ukrainian pilots and technical personnel are already undergoing training in Sweden.
Inaddition, as part of previous agreements, the first 16 Gripen C/D aircraft will be delivered to the Ukrainian Air Force as early as the beginning of 2027.
This will enable faster integration of the platform, training of pilots and technical personnel, adaptation of infrastructure, and enhancement of the Air Force’s combat capabilities.
It was previously reported that Ukraine would allocate 2.5 billion euros from an EU loan to purchase 20 Gripen E/F fighter jets, rather than 16 aircraft.
