WB Group CEO: Poland Has No Long-Range Strike Unit

The Polish Armed Forces currently have no unit or structure responsible for planning and coordinating long-range strikes.

Piotr Wojciechowski, CEO of WB Group, said this during a press breakfast hosted by the World Bank Group, according to Defence24.

He said that simply acquiring long-range drones and missiles is not enough to establish a deep-strike capability.

“We need structures responsible for intelligence, target selection, route planning, logistics, and strike coordination,” Wojciechowski said.

The CEO of WB Group emphasized that carrying out strikes at distances of 1,000 km or more requires an integrated system covering intelligence, target identification and selection, mission planning, route preparation, command and logistics.

According to him, such systems must be capable of carrying out missions without access to GPS, satellite communications, or commercial services such as Starlink. Therefore, autonomous navigation, proprietary software, and mission-execution algorithms are essential.

Wojciechowski noted that, at present, the only branch of the Polish Armed Forces capable of taking responsibility for commanding long-range land-based systems is the artillery.

Until now, Polish deep-strike plans have relied primarily on allied operations and the use of its own F-16 and F-35 aircraft.

The war in Ukraine has demonstrated the growing importance of long-range ground-based systems. Wojciechowski emphasized that isolated attacks are not enough to significantly weaken the military potential of a large country. Effective deterrence requires a sufficiently large arsenal of weapons and the ability to carry out mass strikes. At the same time, targets must be hit accurately.

The CEO of WB Group noted that long-range strikes alone cannot win a war. However, they can destroy infrastructure, disrupt the supply of armed forces, and increase the adversary’s political and economic costs.

Earlier this month, Brigadier General Grzegorz Potrzuski, head of the Polish Armed Forces’ Development Planning and Programming Directorate, said that Poland aims to develop the capability to conduct precision strikes at ranges exceeding 1,000 kilometers.

As strike assets, the country is considering attack drones, as well as cruise and ballistic missiles.
