The Rubin crew of the 1020th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment used a new STING S interceptor drone developed by Ukrainian company Wild Hornets to destroy a Russian Geran-5 small cruise missile.
Wild Hornets published the interception video.
Technical details and even the appearance of the new interceptor have not been disclosed. It is likely an enlarged version of the company’s existing interceptor drones with improved aerodynamics and more powerful engines.
The Geran-5 differs significantly from earlier models in its aerodynamic configuration and more closely resembles a small cruise missile than the “classic” Shahed/Geran-type drones with delta wings.
The missile is about 6 meters long, with a wingspan of up to 5.5 meters, while carrying a 90-kilogram warhead. Its stated range is about 1,000 kilometers.
The missile is powered by a Chinese TELEFLY TF-TJ2000A jet engine with a thrust of 200 kgf, allowing it to reach a cruising speed of 450–600 kilometers per hour. Its maximum flight altitude is estimated at 6 kilometers.
The missile uses a 12-channel jam-resistant Kometa satellite navigation antenna, a Raspberry-based tracker and 3G/4G modems for guidance to the target.
