The United States has approved the sale of Javelin anti-tank missile systems and related equipment to Egypt.

The U.S. State Department announced the decision.

The estimated total value of the potential military deal is $832 million.

The Egyptian government has ordered up to 2,020 FGM-148F Javelin missiles, including 20 missiles for testing purposes, as well as up to 200 Lightweight Command Launch Units (LWCLU).

The deal includes training simulators, missile simulators, battery cooling units, spare parts, as well as technical support and personnel training.

The main contractors for the contract will be Lockheed Martin and RTX.

The Javelin man-portable anti-tank missile system is designed to engage armored vehicles at a range of 2.5–4 km using a ‘fire-and-forget’ guidance system. It employs an 8.4 kg tandem-charge warhead designed to attack targets from the top.
