The US military has been given modified vehicles that visually resemble Russian ones, for training purposes.
The equipment arrived at the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment-Blackhorse of the United States Army.
The regiment received new armored personnel carriers, which are presented as Russian BTR-87 (based on the Stryker APC) and the Russian Tiger SUV.
The BTR-87 was developed with the use of components and units of the BTR-82A armored personnel carrier, but it cannot be called a modernization of the BTR-82A, as new elements appeared as a result of the modifications.
An American OPFOR mockup of a wheeled self-propelled artillery mount, presented as a French CAESAR self-propelled howitzer, was also received.
“These vehicles are visually modified in order to provide Rotational Units realistic training,” the US military said.
This regiment plays the role of the opposing force (OPFOR) in the US Army exercises.
The role of the OPFOR is to simulate the enemy, thereby creating tough and realistic training for infantry battalions.
Previously, this regiment was armed with equipment reminiscent of Russian tanks, BMP-2 and 2S6 Tunguska.
Some armies use specially designed models of equipment for such training.
In 2021, models of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system and T-72 tanks were spotted in the United States.
As previously reported, in August of this year, the German Armed Forces received Robotic Enemy Vehicles that imitate the tanks of the Russian army for training.
