Ukraine has sent a team of specialists as well as interceptor drones to Jordan to help protect U.S. military bases from Iranian drones.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in an interview with The New York Times, stressing that Kyiv is ready to share its unique combat experience.

Background of the Deployment

The request for assistance came from the United States on March 5, and by March 9 the Ukrainian team had already departed for Jordan.

Strengthening the protection of U.S. facilities in Jordan is strategically important amid the expansion of the war in Iran beyond its borders.

Ukraine is using this opportunity to demonstrate the advantages of its drone-interception technologies on a new front.

Cooperation with the United States in the Middle East allows Ukraine to strengthen its position within American diplomatic circles. Kyiv is offering its interceptor drones in exchange for air-defense systems capable of countering ballistic missiles, as well as diplomatic support.

At present, Ukrainian forces have the world’s most extensive experience in countering Shahed drones, which are now posing a threat to U.S. military personnel.
