The Ukrainian Defense Forces launched a missile strike on the Belgorod Thermal Power Plant and the 330/110 kV Frunzenskaya electrical substation in Russia’s Belgorod region.
Local Pepel Telegram channel reported strong explosions in the city.
Following the strike, electricity and heating were cut off in parts of Belgorod and its surrounding areas.
According to the Belgorodenergo website, numerous instances of damage to electrical equipment have been recorded in the area of the village of Striletske near the Frunzenskaya substation as well as in central Belgorod, where the Belgorod Thermal Power Plant was struck.
The company has not yet provided a timeline for the restoration of power.
The Belgorod Thermal Power Plant has an electrical capacity of 60 MW and a thermal capacity of 360.4 Gcal/h. Its generating equipment consists primarily of two gas-turbine power units based on General Electric LM2500+DLE installations, which were commissioned during a major reconstruction in 2007.
The plant’s primary fuel is natural gas, with fuel oil as a backup option. The station plays a critical role in the city’s essential services, supplying approximately 36% of the heating demand of the Central and Northern districts as well as the Left Bank area of the city.
