On the night of June 7–8, Ukrainian Defense Forces strike drones attacked the 220 kV Alchevsk substation in occupied Alchevsk of the Luhansk region.
The CyberBoroshno community reported the strike after analyzing available photos and videos.
The attack took place around 2:00 a.m., when several drones targeted the facility.
The substation provides electricity to the city of Alchevsk and the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant and serves as a major distribution hub with a capacity of 500 MVA.
Located at 48.452478, 38.851247, the substation is about 70–80 km from the front line, according to DeepState.
Strikes on such facilities are primarily aimed at undermining the enemy’s combat capability.
Occupied territories are fully utilized by the Russian army: electricity powers military units, industrial facilities where equipment is repaired and maintained, as well as headquarters and barracks.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces carry out these attacks on energy infrastructure to systematically weaken the enemy’s capabilities.
In April 2026, the Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked a substation in the temporarily occupied city of Melitopol.
In addition to occupied territories, Ukrainian Defense Forces have also carried out systematic strikes on substations inside Russia, mainly in Krasnodar Krai and the Belgorod region.
For example, in early March, drones attacked the Taman and Kubanskaya power substations near the city of Abinsk in Krasnodar Krai.
Militarnyi previously reported that in late May 2026, power outages began in the Russian city of Belgorod following a missile strike.
