The Ukrainian Defense Forces targeted an aircraft repair plant in Taganrog, located in Russia’s Rostov region, on the morning of May 27.
Astra reported on this, while Exilenova+ shared photos and videos from the scene.
Residents of Taganrog reported hearing explosions early in the morning, according to posts on social media.
Russian monitoring channels claimed the region was targeted overnight and in the early morning hours by drones and missiles.
According to an OSINT analysis by Astra based on eyewitness footage, smoke from the explosion was seen rising from the area of the 325th Aircraft Repair Plant. The videos were reportedly filmed about 2.8 kilometers from the facility.
The facility specializes in repairing An-12, An-72, and An-72P aircraft, as well as components, systems, and instruments for An-24, An-26, Tu-134, Tu-142, Tu-154, Il-76, Su-24, and Su-25 aircraft, along with Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters.
Due to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the plant is under sanctions imposed by the European Union, the United States, and Ukraine.
The 352nd Aviation Plant is also located nearby. It is currently unknown whether the facilities themselves were damaged.
Rostov region Governor Yury Slyusar confirmed the attack and claimed that a missile had allegedly been shot down.
“As a result of falling missile debris, cars caught fire on Tsiolkovsky Street,” he wrote on Telegram.
The buildings of the above-mentioned Russian aircraft repair plants are located in that area of Taganrog.
On May 22, satellites operated by NASA’s FIRMS service had already detected a fire near the 325th Aircraft Repair Plant. However, the cause of the fire remains unknown. The facility had previously been targeted in December 2024.
Ukrainian drones previously struck production facilities of Angstrom, a microelectronics and electronic components manufacturer in Russia’s Moscow region.
