In August, Russian occupation forces seized approximately 133 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory.

This was reported by the Finnish organization Black Bird Group, which tracks the progress of the Russo-Ukrainian war.

According to analysts, at the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are carrying out counteroffensives in various sectors of the front, liberating territory.

“Russian gains are slowly increasing again, but remain extremely limited,” the organization noted, emphasizing that current figures differ significantly from last year’s.

The offensive operations of Russia’s occupying forces were concentrated in the north of Donetsk region, particularly in the Druzhkivka sector, as well as in border areas in Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

The organization noted that Ukraine has effectively eliminated the threat of an encirclement of Lyman and has created a threat to the Russian salient north of the city.

At the same time, according to their data, neither Russian nor Ukrainian actions led to operational successes and did not significantly alter the overall situation on the front. The Black Bird Group considers it unlikely that the Russian occupiers will be able to achieve their goal of capturing the entire Donetsk region in the near future.

Counteroffensive operations

On Thursday, September 3, the 23rd Assault Regiment “R.U.G.” of the Khartia Corps reported that its fighters had cleared new areas between Dvorichna and Zapadnyi in the Kupiansk district of the Kharkiv region.

In one of these areas, R.U.G. soldiers worked alongside fighters from the 35th Marine Brigade. Ukrainian military personnel and foreign volunteers from Latin American countries were deployed to carry out the combat mission. In total, the operation resulted in the liberation of 4 km² of Ukrainian territory.

The operation began on January 29, and by mid-August, Ukrainian troops had regained control of more than 745 km² of territory and liberated 26 settlements.
