Ukraine has imposed sanctions on a Russian developer of drones, electronic warfare systems, and artificial intelligence, as well as on companies that supply equipment to enterprises in the military-industrial complex (MIC).

Ukraine’s Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy Vladyslav Vlasiuk told Militarnyi this in a comment.

“Equally important is a preemptive strike against the infrastructure of unmanned technologies. Sanctions against the so-called ‘Crimean Research Institute of Unmanned Technologies,’ initiated by Serhii Aksionov — who is himself subject to sanctions — are aimed at suppressing enemy’s capabilities at the development stage,” says Vlasiuk.

According to him, this organization is involved not only in the development of FPV drones, electronic warfare systems, and artificial intelligence, but also in the training of operators and engineers. Therefore, the entire complex is subject to the restrictions.

Ukrainian sanctions have also targeted companies crucial for the Russian defense industry.

“For example, Metal Industry supplies metalworking equipment and software to Russian defense industry enterprises. Its counterparties include the sanctioned Kalashnikov, Istok, and the Chemical Automatics Design Bureau,” Vlasiuk shared.

According to VARTA OSINT data, the design bureau is located in the Voronezh region, Russia, and specializes in the development, production, and testing of liquid-propellant rocket engines, fuel systems, automation units, and components for rocket and space technology.

As another example, he cited the ‘Engineering and Industrial Company’ Research and Production Enterprise, which manufactures specialized equipment, including TDA-3 smoke generators designed to conceal Russian troops and facilities from reconnaissance and precision-guided weapons.

According to OSINT VARTA, the company designs and manufactures one-off and small-batch products in the field of special-purpose mechanical engineering and instrumentation. It is located in Russia’s Vladimir region.

“Thus, the sanctions target specific production chains that supply the Russian military and its defense industry,” the Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy concluded.

On August 20, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed four decrees enacting decisions by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine to impose sanctions on Russian military-industrial complex enterprises.

The restrictions also apply to companies involved in circumventing sanctions to supply high-precision industrial equipment, tools, electronics, and raw materials.

A separate package covers five companies in the Rusal group and nine Russian citizens associated with these companies. They include alumina importers and aluminum producers serving the needs of the Russian MIC enterprise.

These companies also obtain raw materials in circumvention of sanctions and supply products for the manufacture of military equipment, rocket and artillery weapons, and military aircraft.
