US inspectors discovered technical problems in the equipment that was planned to be shipped to Ukraine from Kuwait.

Inspector General Robert P. Storch reported on improper storage of equipment.

Thus, the 401st Army Field Support Battalion–Kuwait did not adequately oversee the maintenance of the equipment under its supervision.

Therefore, it turned out that the M1167 High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles and the M777 howitzers in the APS-5 inventory were in poor technical condition.

“These deficiencies resulted in unanticipated maintenance, repairs, and extended lead times to bring the equipment up to the level where the DoD could issue it to Ukraine,” Inspector General Robert P. Storch said.

This is the situation, unfortunately, with the majority of equipment that is in the APS-5 inventory.

To address these issues, the DoD OIG recommended that the Army consider the level of maintenance and lead time required before selecting APS–5 equipment for sourcing Ukrainian Armed Forces requirements.

The USA is also preparing a new military aid package to Ukraine in the amount of $300 million.
