Ukrainian diplomats, in cooperation with the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence, conducted the evacuation of Ukrainian citizens and those of partner countries from Israel and Iran.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi, President of Ukraine, announced this.
According to him, the operation took place on the eve of anticipated U.S. military actions against Iran’s nuclear program facilities.
On the night of June 22, the United States launched a coordinated strike on three Iranian nuclear facilities, effectively entering into a state of war with Iran.
The strike was carried out using aviation, primarily B-2 bombers, as well as submarines that launched Tomahawk cruise missiles.
As part of the Ukrainian evacuation operation, 176 people were evacuated from Israel to Egypt.
Evacuation of civilians from Iran to Azerbaijan is also ongoing.
Among the foreign citizens evacuated from the dangerous regions were nationals of Moldova, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, and the United States.
“We respond to every request and will continue evacuation efforts. I have instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the intelligence services to ensure all necessary measures are in place to protect our people in the Middle East and the Gulf region,” the statement reads.
It is known that other countries, including Portugal and Slovakia, have launched their own operations to evacuate citizens from the region and are considering Cyprus as a transit hub for evacuating their nationals from Israel.
Meanwhile, Poland has chosen an alternative route — a land evacuation through Jordan. In the coming days, Warsaw plans to evacuate about 200 of its citizens.
