Ukraine’s defense industry has presented a drone designed to intercept Russian Shahed drones.
The footage of the drone was featured in a video by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The presentation was for the Belgian delegation, led by Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, who visited Kyiv and was introduced to the latest advancements in Ukraine’s defense sector.
According to the developers, it is actively used to intercept Russian Shahed drones and has destroyed over 20 drones of this type in the last two months.
It can also be used against smaller targets, including reconnaissance drones conducting surveillance over Ukrainian territory.
While the detailed tactical and technical specifications remain unknown, the developers have stated that the drone’s maximum speed is 200 km/h, and its maximum flight altitude is 5 km.
According to them, this drone is currently the most successful interceptor of Shahed drones in service with the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
It should be noted that Ukrainian specialists are actively working on creating cheap and high-performance drones designed to replace expensive anti-aircraft missiles in intercepting low-speed and small-sized targets.
Demonstrating products from Ukraine’s defense industry allows for closer ties with the Belgian defense industry, which has already taken steps towards joint production of defense products and their further development.
Speaking of joint production, in November 2024, a memorandum was signed between Ukraine and Thales Belgium. The Belgian company will help Ukraine organize the joint production of 70mm missiles.
This cooperation may expand in the future to include the transfer of relevant technologies to Ukraine for the independent production of FZ275 LGR missiles.
Militarnyi previously reported that the Ukrainian Defense Forces have started using a new type of interceptor drone.
