On the morning of August 21, Ukrainian long-range UAVs attacked an oil refinery in the Russian city of Perm.
The incident was reported by the monitoring resource Exilenova+.
One of Russia’s largest oil refineries, LUKOIL-Permnefteorgsintez, is located in the city.
Footage posted by eyewitnesses shows thick black smoke rising from the fire on the company’s premises.
A drone attack warning was issued in the region in the morning. Perm Airport also suspended operations.
Locals reported hearing air raid sirens and explosions in the city.
The distance from the front line to the facility that was attacked today is more than 1,500 kilometers.
The Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez oil refinery is a key industrial facility in the Perm region.
The refinery’s design capacity is around 13 million tons of crude oil per year. It produces gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, and lubricants, and also processes associated petroleum gas.
The company’s products meet the needs of the aggressor country’s domestic market and, prior to the Ukrainian strikes, were used for export.
The Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez has been repeatedly targeted by the Ukrainian Defence Forces’ drones. The strikes took place on July 29, May 8, and May 7. Another drone attack was carried out on April 30.
The strikes on Russian oil refineries are aimed at reducing the production of fuel needed to support Russian troops and the economy. Damage to the equipment at these facilities leads to a reduction in oil refining and fuel shortages in the domestic market.
