German DN51A2 grenades are universal. They simultaneously perform the function of both offensive and defensive.

To change the purpose of the grenade, you must either disconnect or attach an additional screen.

In the “assembled” state, the grenade can be used as a defense one – the spread of shrapnels will reach 100 meters.

And in the “disassembled” form – the grenade becomes offensive – the spread of shrapnels of 25 meters.

Unlike Soviet grenades, which are either offensive or defensive, the DN51A2 is universal. This means that the military can apply it depending on the situation.

The main thing is that the use of such weapons can significantly reduce the required amount of ammunition for the military. They don’t need to have two sets of grenades.

The DM51 grenade was adopted by Germany in 1978. It has several modifications. The Ukrainian military received a modern version of DN51A2.
