On the morning of July 14, Ukrainian drones targeted the Salavat Oil Refinery in Bashkortostan, Russia.
A fire broke out on the refinery’s grounds, and footage of it has been published by the Telegram channel Exilenova+.
The facility in question is Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat, located 1,400 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
According to local residents, a series of explosions was heard in the area around the plant, after which thick black smoke from the fire began to rise above the industrial zone, visible from various parts of the city.
The regional governor later reported that a massive UAV attack had been repelled and that a series of fires had broken out, allegedly caused by debris from the downed drones.
Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat is one of Russia’s largest oil refining and petrochemical production facilities.
It specializes in producing gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, bitumen, lubricants, polyethylene, ammonia, methanol, and other petrochemical products.
The facility’s design capacity is 10 million metric tons per year, while actual processing volume for 2022 was 6.8 million metric tons. The company’s structure includes an oil refinery, a gas chemical plant, and the Monomer plant.
However, current capacities may differ, as the facility has been attacked multiple times by Ukrainian drones, including twice last September. At that time, a fire was reported at the primary processing unit.
