The Swedish government has commissioned the development of its own counterpart to Ukraine’s DELTA situational awareness system.
SVT reported that the new system is designed to enable the destruction of targets in a matter of minutes.
The Ukrainian DELTA system collects and analyzes data from various sources and displays it on soldiers’ tablets so that every fighter has an accurate picture of the situation and can act faster and in a more coordinated manner.
“We will reduce the time it takes to engage a target from hours to minutes,” said Mattias Hansson, head of the Swedish Armed Forces’ cyber division.
Real-time drone footage, satellite imagery, and maps showing the locations of all friendly units—all of this will be available to soldiers on their tablets and cell phones directly on the battlefield.
The Swedish Armed Forces plan to implement the system by the end of the year following the government’s decision to invest 5 billion Swedish kronor in the project.
“Thanks to these measures, we will become stronger and faster. This is extremely important for the future battlefield and the transparent battlefield we are seeing today in Ukraine,” said Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson.
Until now, the Swedish Armed Forces have maintained communication between different units primarily via radio.
Digital communication tools were also used, but there was no single integrated system.
According to military officials, it can currently take several hours between receiving information about an enemy target and the order to open fire.
These delays are caused by the need to manually process information and relay it between different levels of command, which use different systems.
The next step will be the implementation of artificial intelligence-based software to help process, analyze, and sort large amounts of data.
