The Russian Baltic Fleet has installed protective netting on the landing ship Aleksandr Shabalin to counter FPV drones.

Massimo Frantarelli published the photos of the equipment on X.

The images show that the net is stretched between the 57 mm AK-725 automatic cannon and the superstructure, while the wheelhouse remains open.

It can also be seen that the net covers the deck area around the superstructure, although the low image quality makes it impossible to determine the exact configuration of the protection.

Such a configuration may provide limited protection for the crew against FPV drones.

Meanwhile, at the current stage of the war, the main threat to Baltic Fleet vessels comes from long-range kamikaze drones of the FP-1 and An-196 types, which such nets are unlikely to counter.

In particular, long-range Ukrainian drones previously destroyed the Russian Project 20380 missile corvette Boykiy.
Aleksander Shabalin is not the first Baltic Fleet vessel to receive additional protection. Earlier, anti-drone nets were installed on the Project 21980 anti-saboteur boat Grachonok.

The landing ship itself has repeatedly appeared in various incidents in Europe. It was previously spotted near Denmark with its automatic identification system turned off at the time unidentified drones were observed over the country’s capital.

In addition, in October 2025, the ship anchored off the coast of Germany, causing difficulties for local fishermen and scientific research in the area.
