Russian Serviceman Likely Blown Up in Car in Sevastopol

An explosion in temporarily occupied Sevastopol on the morning of September 2 injured a man believed to be a Russian serviceman.

The Telegram channel Crimean Wind reported the incident, citing its own sources.

The explosion occurred at about 6:45 a.m. on Kolobova Street. According to the channel, it blasted after the man got into a Mazda but before he started the engine.

Preliminary information indicates that an explosive device had been placed beneath the car’s engine compartment.
The Mazda caught fire in the blast, and the driver suffered serious injuries. He was hospitalized.

Local residents said the explosion was so powerful that it could be heard on neighboring streets.

Russian security forces cordoned off the street and began inspecting the area.

The cause of the explosion was initially unknown. Witnesses suggested that the car may have exploded or that a drone may have fallen.

According to the Telegram channel, the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device with a yield of about 400 grams of TNT equivalent.

The channel also reported that the blast occurred near Building 22/3 on Kolobova Street. Russian servicemen had received apartments in this and neighboring buildings before the occupation of Crimea.

No further details about the man who was blown up in the car have been reported.

This was not the first similar incident in Crimea recently.

On August 13, Russian Navy Captain 1st Rank Robert Shagiyev was killed in an explosion in Sevastopol. He was the former commander of the Ukrainian submarine Zaporizhzhia who had betrayed his oath.

The explosion occurred on Stoletovskyi Avenue. An explosive device had been placed in a trash bin near a bench. The traitor was walking down the stairs with a companion when the device exploded.

Shagiyev died in the blast. The Book of Executioners project confirmed his elimination, citing data from the Russian tax database.
