A Russian reconnaissance aircraft violated Finnish airspace over the Gulf of Finland, according to Finnish Border Guard, Yle reports.
The Ministry of Defence of Finland said the suspected violation occurred on August 20.
A Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft violated Finnish airspace south of Utö Island in the Gulf of Finland.
According to the Finnish Border Guard, the aircraft flew 8.7 km into Finnish territory and remained there for about three minutes.
The Finnish Border Guard has launched a preliminary investigation into the incident.
This is already the second Russian airspace violation in Finland in recent months.
The previous incident occurred on May 27, when a Russian military aircraft violated Finnish airspace over the Gulf of Finland.
