Norway will allocate approximately NOK 1.2 billion to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.
The press service of the Norwegian government reported on this.
These funds will be used to purchase appropriate equipment in the United States through the American JUMPSTART mechanism.
Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Sandvik announced this to the Ukrainian delegation during a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense in the Ramstein format.
The funds are part of the NOK 22.5 billion that Norway will spend on military support for Ukraine in 2025 through the Nansen Program.
“Europe must do more for Ukraine, and Norway stands by this. Air defense has long been Ukraine’s highest priority military need and is crucial to protecting both military and civilian infrastructure and the people of Ukraine,” Sandvik said.
The Minister added that in 2024, Norway supplied Ukraine with air defense equipment worth over 6 billion kroner.
Norway has also officially joined the international coalition of drones for Ukraine.
“Ukraine is in dire need of additional military equipment to protect itself from Russia’s aggressive war. Drones and unmanned technologies are an important part of this, both to protect critical infrastructure and to be used on the front line,” the Norwegian Defense Minister emphasized.
Norway has recently contributed NOK 700 million to a multinational initiative to purchase drones for Ukraine. In 2025, it is also planned to use funds from the Nansen Program for drones and drone technology.
In addition, in January, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umierov reported that Norway intends to continue investing in the Ukrainian defense industry and joint projects, including ammunition production.
In December 2024, Norway allocated a €230 million defense aid package aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s Navy.
