The Russian 9M723-1 ballistic missile of the Iskander-M system is capable of striking targets at a distance of up to 390 km.
This was reported by the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU).
Meanwhile, the upgraded 9M723-2, known as the Iskander-1000, has a range of up to 550 km. Russia used it for the first time during one of the combined missile strikes on the capital this summer.
Previously, open sources, including Ukrainian ones, cited a range of approximately 500 km for the 9M723-1 missiles.
The increase in the 9M723-2’s range was made possible by a more powerful rocket engine and a correspondingly larger launch system.
According to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU), the rest of the missile’s components remain identical to those of the 9M723-1.
The 9M723-2 missile is part of the Bora-M system.
In addition to data on the missiles’ range, the DIU has released information regarding the production of the Iskander-M.
The new War&Sanctions page contains data on Russian and foreign components, enterprises, officials, and technological equipment related to the production of these missiles.
In particular, intelligence has released data on 140 components, 35 enterprises, and 108 officials and employees involved in missile production.
The 9M723-1 is 7.2 meters long, has a body diameter of 920 mm, and a launch weight of approximately 3.8 metric tons. According to the DIU, the missile is equipped with a 450-kilogram warhead, which can be a cluster, high-explosive fragmentation, high-explosive, or penetrator warhead.
The missile flies along a quasi-ballistic trajectory, and its guidance system can utilize both inertial and satellite navigation with terminal correction.
