All CAESAR wheeled self-propelled howitzers produced in 2025 will be transferred to support Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
French President Emmanuel Macron made the announcement during an appearance on TF1Info.
He emphasized that a strong Ukrainian military is the key to ensuring the country’s security — an effort France is committed to supporting, including through the supply of weapons produced by its defense industry.
France is currently ready to significantly increase the production rate of CAESAR self-propelled howitzers, with plans to manufacture 12 units per month.
Before the full-scale invasion, the country was producing just two CAESAR howitzers per month. After 2022, that number started to grow — first to six systems, then to eight, and now the company is scaling up to produce 12 systems per month.
It’s worth noting that if production reaches 12 CAESAR units per month, the chassis supplied by the French manufacturer Arquus will need to be produced at a rate of one every four days.
In addition to ramping up production, the French-made CAESAR has now become Europe’s primary artillery system. Several countries have signed contracts to purchase it, including France, which has ordered 109 of the latest CAESAR NG self-propelled howitzers.
Belgium has ordered 28 of these systems in the 6×6 version. Lithuania signed a contract for the delivery of 18 CAESAR NG units. Estonia purchased 12 systems in the Mk I version, the first of which have already been delivered. Portugal ordered 36 CAESAR NG units to modernize its artillery.
The Czech Republic has also procured 62 CAESAR systems in the 8×8 version, mounted on a Czech Tatra chassis. Armenia signed a contract for 36 units in the Mk I version. Ukraine has received 37 systems from France and Denmark and plans to receive an additional 78 as part of an international initiative.
Among other European countries, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, and Slovenia are also planning to procure CAESAR self-propelled howitzers as part of efforts to modernize their artillery fleets.
Militarnyi previously reported that 90% of the barrels for CAESAR systems produced by the defense consortium KNDS are being supplied to Ukraine.
Additionally, at its factory in La Chapelle-Saint-Ursin, KNDS has doubled the production of 155mm shells, with plans to reach 100,000 units by the end of the year.
