Ukrainian drones struck deep behind Russian lines, destroying BM-30 Smerch multiple rocket launchers.

The Lasar’s Group, a unit of the National Guard, said the operation took place in the Luhansk region.

The strike was carried out in coordination with the ‘North’ Regional Center for radio electronic intelligence.

“Our comrades provided information about the activity of unidentified Russian systems,” the unit said.

Thanks to the work of analysts and aerial reconnaissance crews, the Lasar’s Group was able to determine that they were BM-30 Smerch systems.

The unit’s fighters deployed their strike drones to the designated area.

As a result, two BM-30 Smerch multiple rocket launchers, a Slepok-1 automated fire control system, and a transport-loading vehicle were destroyed.

The large-caliber (300 mm) BM-30 Smerch multiple rocket launcher is designed to strike personnel, equipment, and fortifications at long range.

It can fire up to 12 rockets in a single salvo and hit targets at distances of roughly 70–120 km, depending on the munitions used.

The system can launch different types of rockets, including cluster and precision-guided munitions.

Recently, the 1st Unmanned Systems Center also destroyed three Russian BM-30 Smerch/Tornado-S multiple launch rocket systems, along with a transport-loading vehicle.

The destroyed MLRS are likely a modernized version known as the Tornado-S.
