The 20th Separate Regiment of Unmanned Systems was created on the basis of the K-2 second mechanized battalion from the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade.

Lieutenant Colonel Kyrylo Veres, Commander of the K-2 unit, reported on this.

“Our battle-hardened mechanized battalion is being transformed into the 20th Separate Regiment of Unmanned Systems. We are scaling our operations up many times over, which is why we need you! We open our doors to anyone who wants to join our ranks. There is work for you both in the rear and at the forefront,” Kyrylo shared.

The unit’s website announced recruitment for the newly created regiment. They are looking for applicants for a wide range of positions, from clerks and electric welders to scouts and UAV and electronic warfare operators.

It is noted that, in addition to the basic training, UAV operators also undergo additional professional training at the school and continue their studies immediately after arriving at the unit.

Transfers from other military units are also possible, and candidates who previously went AWOL are also accepted.

It is separately noted that recruits can join the 20th regiment both through mobilization and by signing a contract.

The 20th Separate Regiment of Unmanned Systems will be the third separate regiment of unmanned systems created in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Prior to that, the 14th Separate Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Regiment, created in August 2024 and part of the Unmanned Systems Forces, and the 414th Separate Regiment of Strike Unmanned Aircraft Systems “Magyar’s Birds,” formed in June 2024 and part of the Marine Corps, have already been created.

The unit’s expansion to a regiment not only physically increases the number of personnel and weapons systems. It also allows for creating new structures in the unit that act as a capability multiplier.

For example, after expanding to a regiment, the Magyar’s Birds created its own training unit, legal ammunition production for UAVs, repair and maintenance, and technical electronic units.

It is worth noting that the regiment has a UAV interception and destruction unit, an experimental unmanned systems unit, and a unit for developing and implementing new systems.
