Iran is completing the development of the infrastructure and protection system of one of the key facilities of its nuclear program – the new Taleghan 2 research center.
This is reported by the Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS) with reference to the analysis of satellite images.
Satellite data record the active development of the Taleghan 2 infrastructure, including the construction of a facility that can be used to store explosives.
It is noted that this object has an approximate length of 36 meters and a diameter of about 12 meters and is located inside a building about 40 meters long and 17 meters wide.
While there is no definitive evidence that the new facility is directly intended for nuclear weapons production, its location and previous history raise serious concerns.
Taleghan 2 is located less than 200 meters from the bombed Taleghan 1 site, which also contained a large explosives container used in the nuclear weapons program.
This facility was previously destroyed during the Israeli campaign on October 25, 2024.
According to Axios reports and ISIS research, it is likely that immediately before the October 2024 bombing, Taleghan 2 was storing equipment designed to produce high-purity plastic explosives.
These explosives were used in the AMAD plan in devices designed to detonate the main explosive charge of a nuclear warhead.
During the AMAD plan, Taleghan 2 operated a purpose-built smaller cylindrical explosives test chamber equipped with an X-ray flash system capable of providing in-depth analysis of explosive processes.
This chamber required a massive support foundation and was poured with concrete.
Construction of the new facility has been underway for several months. Satellite images taken between September and November 2025 show the presence of a large elongated cylindrical metal object about 36 meters long and at least 12 meters in diameter inside a metal domed roof.
The exact purpose of this object cannot be determined solely from satellite imagery, but its shape and metal construction are consistent with the characteristics of explosives test chambers previously built by Iran.
The facility is probably in the final stages of construction.
This time, the facility has a much higher level of protection as it is equipped with concrete protective sarcophagi, earthen mounds, and additional engineering fortifications designed to increase resistance to bombing.
At the end of November, it became known that Iranian scientists and nuclear experts made their second secret visit to Russia last year. The United States claims that this trip was aimed at obtaining secret technologies that could be used to create nuclear weapons.
