Poland has received preliminary approval from the US State Department to localize the production of missiles for the Patriot air defense missile systems.

This was announced by Polish Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk on RMF24.

According to him, the plan involves establishing production of missiles for American air defense systems within Poland’s defense industry; however, the final decision still depends on further intergovernmental agreements with Washington.

If the project is implemented, Poland will become one of the few countries outside the US to have production capabilities for Patriot missiles.

Currently, missiles for these systems are produced in Japan under license, in addition to the United States.

In addition, production of GEM-T missiles for the Patriot system is set to begin in Germany in 2026 as part of the expansion of the European production hub for Raytheon and MBDA, as previously reported by Militarnyi.

For Poland, localizing this production will be an important step in developing its own air defense capabilities and integrating into the global Patriot supply chain.

The country is already gradually expanding its participation in the production of components for these systems.

In particular, Poland previously opened a production line for transport and launch containers for Patriot PAC-3 MSE missiles, and subsequently manufactured the first batch of such products for Lockheed Martin.

Thus, the Polish defense industry has already become part of the global Patriot production chain, and the new project could mark a transition to a significantly more advanced level of localization.

Amid a large-scale rearmament of the Polish armed forces and growing threats in the region, Warsaw seeks not only to procure modern air defense systems but also to acquire critical manufacturing capabilities.

The launch of Patriot missile production in Poland could also potentially strengthen Europe’s ability to supply allies with missiles for air and missile defense.
