Oil refineries in Moscow and Ryazan have halted operations after recent Ukrainian drone strikes.

Reuters, citing industry sources, reported that the disruptions affected key fuel infrastructure in Russia.

The Moscow refinery, located in the southeast of the capital, is one of the country’s major fuel suppliers.

According to the agency’s sources, the strike reportedly “did not cause significant damage” to the facility. However, operations were suspended “for safety reasons” to avoid potential risks.

It is noted that restarting oil processing could take several days.

The oil refinery is located in Moscow’s Kapotnya district and is among the ten largest oil refineries in Russia. It supplies around 40% of the Moscow region’s demand for petroleum products, including both the city and the surrounding area. The facility currently has a processing capacity of more than 11 million tons of oil per year.

Ukrainian drones struck the oil refinery on May 17.

According to the agency, the Ryazan oil refinery also halted processing operations after a drone strike by Ukraine’s Defense Forces on May 15.

The facility is part of the structure of the company Rosneft. It is one of the largest oil refining enterprises in Russia, with a processing capacity of about 17 million tons of oil per year.

The refinery includes four primary oil refining units, along with facilities for vacuum gas oil hydrotreating, cracking, catalytic reforming, and other processing operations.

The oil refinery produces all grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, fuel oil, liquefied gases, bitumen, and petrochemical feedstock.

The facility is a key supplier of motor fuel to regions surrounding the Russian capital and has been repeatedly targeted by Ukrainian drones.
