Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has begun flight tests of the next-generation Arrow 4 interceptor.

Defense-Update reported the development.

The new interceptor is intended to serve as the upper tier of Israel’s missile defense architecture, replacing earlier-generation Arrow systems.

The program is being developed jointly with the United States, with the participation of the U.S. Missile Defense Agency. The project aims to counter maneuverable and hypersonic threats that are increasingly appearing in the arsenals of countries in the region.

Arrow 4 is designed to replace Arrow 2 and Arrow 3. The new interceptor features greater maneuverability and improved accuracy in the terminal phase of engagement.

According to the developer, the system is equipped with advanced satellite-aided inertial guidance.

New aerodynamic control surfaces enable the missile to execute rapid maneuvers at very high speeds.

IAI President and CEO Boaz Levy previously reported that serial production is scheduled to begin in late 2025, paving the way for initial deployment as early as 2026.

In addition to Israel, the Bundeswehr plans to acquire the Arrow 4 missile defense system.

Combined with the deployment of Arrow 3, the first unit of which is set to become operational in northeastern Germany by the end of the year, the system is expected to provide coverage across a broad range of altitudes.

One of the stated advantages of the Arrow 4 interceptor is its compatibility with existing Arrow radars and launchers.

This is expected to make the system a cost-effective solution.
